How can we be Champions of Peace

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog, for the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are koru’s, dove’s, Olive branches, Peace signs(circle) and the Victory sign (hand)

These symbols represent: safety, kindness, love and trust.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because I included the CandD symbol. The British graphic artist Gerald Holtom invented the CND symbol in 1958 on behalf of the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Each of the letters C, N and D can be found within the symbol. It was used during the anti-nuclear-weapons movement and civil rights movement. In modern times it has become a universal sign of peace and hope.

Here is my artwork:

I wrote about Queen Elizabeth. I thought this person was a champion of peace because she takes care of her country and other countries as well. She lets everyone have their own rights and what they deserve and how they treat other countries. She was an amazing monarch and she took really good care of her country. King Charles is now taking care of the country now. She was amazing and everyone trusted her to do a great job of being  the Queen.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it taught me how important peace is and that if we show peace a lot more we can save a lot of people’s lives like in the Russian and Ukrainian war that is going on. Thousands of people are dying and they help and support and we need to help them find peace between both countries and make the war stop and even the other wars that are going on in the world as well.

I learnt what the peace symbols mean and how to show them in smaller forms like show kindness in my everyday actions and how they can make an impact on other peoples lives and mine.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by helping people out if they need help and showing peace in my community.

How can you be a Champion of Peace in your community?

Me and my cousin in Germany.

Kia ora, this week for reading we have been learning about the Berlin war and how they had to build a wall that they built in 2 days so East Germany and West Germany could be separated. Our create was to make a google drawing of a text conversation between me and one of my cousin and I picked Ava. Before we started our create we had to read a book about the Berlin war. On the 13th of August 1961 the east German government began to build a wall to seperate the east and west germans. The wall was built right through the city of Berlin and it was finished in just two days, the wall was finally torn down in 1989.

This my conversation with Ava.

Have you ever been seperated your family?

My Perfect Poetry

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog, for the past few weeks we have been writing our own poems the poems that we have been doing are: list poems, limerick poems, haiku poems, diamante poems and biographical poems.

A Limerick is a poem that has 5 lines, the last 2 words in the first 2 lines have to rhyme. Then the 3rd and 4th lines rhyme with eachother, the 5th line rhymes with the first 2 lines.

A biographical poem is when you choose somone to write it about. The first line has their first name then you write about their intrests and about the person you chose to do.

A haiku is when you write a poem that has 3 lines. The first and third line has 5 syllables and the second line has 7 syllables. A syllable is a part of a word, for example ap-ple it has 2 syllables and cat has one.

A dimante is a poem that looks like a diamond. You have one noun on the first and last line the second and fourth line have 2 adjectives and the 3rd line has 3 words that ends in ing.

A dimante is a poem that looks like a diamond. You have one noun on the first and last line the second and fourth line have 2 adjectives and the 3rd line has 3 words that end in ing.

I made a slideshow on the poems that I’ve learnt about.

Have you ever made any of these poems before?

My Splendid Scientific Experiment

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog. In science we have been learning about electricity. For one of the science experiments I learnt about battery power. I learnt that battery power has evolved through out the years.

My hypothesis was: I think that the salt will conduct a source of power/energy and the salt disassociates into the water to make the energy.

The items we used are:

  • 2 copper nails,
  • 2 zinc nails
  • water
  • speciman jar,
  • “S” beaker,
  • “T” beaker,
  • Buzzer
  • (metal clips)
  • salt ( sodium (Na)
  • chloride (CI) } Ions.

We started by filling the speciman jar with water and then we got to choose between 2 copper nails or 2 zinc nails or one of each. Then we put the point of the nail in the water and the base of the nail sitting on the rim of the speciman jar and then we connected the metal clips & buzzer to the nails and the jar together. Then we put the salt into the speciman jar and stirred the salt into the water. After we put the salt into the water and mixed it it made this high pitched sound.

My hypothesis was 50% right. When we finished the experiment my team found out that we had to swap the nails around to make the high pitched sound and we discovered that if you shook the jar the sound went louder because the mixture moved faster to create more energy.

Something I found interesting was that I never realised how much electricity, power and energy I was using in this experiment and I can’t imagine how much power and energy was used through all of the experiments I did.

Something I found challenging was I found it hard to follow the instructions not knowing where the items went. But when I read the intructions slowly I started to understand the concept of the experiment and where the items went.

Have you ever done an experiment before and did you succeed in the experiment?

My Wonderful Writing

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog,

For the past week we have been writing our own plays and base it on a original fairytale. I chose Goldilocks and the three bears, but I changed the title to The curse of Goldifur. But in our play on our fairytale we had to add a plot twist to my writing. My plot twist is Goldilocks was orginally a bear and a witch cursed her to be human and the curse lasts 5 days and if the animals that have been cursed don’t find their families or relatives in 5 days they stay a human forever.

Here is my play I hope you enjoy:

The curse of Goldifur.

Characters:

  • Goldilocks/Goldifur
  • Papa Bear
  • Mama Bear
  • Baby Bear
  • Queen Trixie
  • Lady

(At Trixie’s castle)

Queen Trixie: Mwahahahaha! Now I’ve got you for good!

Goldifur: !ROAR!

(The Queen turns Goldifur into a human)

(Gates open)

Goldilocks: (Saying scaredly) What’s happened to me? A cute button nose? Big wavy locks? Big round buttocks? I’m, I’m a human!

(Goldilocks runs into this town full of people that she doesn’t know)

(People murmuring)

Lady: Little girl, are you ok, you look worried?

Goldilocks: I don’t know what to do. I just ran 2km from this awful witch who transformed me into a human.

(Goldilocks answered calmly)

Lady: Ok? (she hesitated) You can stay with me for a few nights in my little cottage and you can tell me all about it.

(They walk to the lady’s cottage)

Goldilocks: Well it all started when I was running away from the Queen…

(Goldilocks tells the lady the whole story)

Lady: WOW! That’s one heck of a story.

Goldilocks: Yeah I know. Thank you for letting me stay for a few nights in your cottage, I really appreciate it.

Lady: You’re very welcome.

(2 days went past)

Goldilocks: Thank you again for letting me stay with you.

(Goldilocks starts walking back into the woods)

(Three dreadful hours went by)

Goldilocks: I’m starving! Oooo there’s a cottage over there I might have a wee sneak around, to see if there is any food.

(Goldilocks running towards the cottage)

Goldilocks: The door is open. (she said surprisingly)

(Goldilocks tiptoed in to see if anyone was in there?)

Goldilocks: Hello? Hello, anyone home?

(Goldilocks eyes went straight for the porridge)

Goldilocks: Mmmm yum, I love porridge, I hope these people wouldn’t mind if I have a taste of their scrumptious porridge.

(Goldilocks sat down by the big bowl)

Goldilocks: !OUCH! This porridge is too hot.

(Goldilocks moved on to the next bowl of porridge

Goldilocks: Ugh this porridge is too cold.

(Goldilocks shuffled over to the last bowl of porridge)

Goldilocks: Mmmmm delicious this bowl of porridge is just right.

(Goldilocks gobbled all the bowl of porridge, and decided that she wanted to sit down)

Goldilocks: OW! This chair is too hard.

(Goldilocks moved on to the next chair)

Goldilocks: WOAH! This chair is too soft.

(Goldilocks moved on to the last chair)

Goldilocks: Ahhh this chair is just right.

!Snap! (The chair breaks)

(Goldilocks sat down for a bit then started getting tired)

Goldilocks: I’m so tired, I need to take a nap.

(Goldilocks goes upstairs to seek out the beds

Goldilocks: JEEZ! This bed is way too hard.

(Goldilocks hop on to the other bed)

Goldilocks: Holy Moly! This bed is too soft.

(Goldilocks popped onto the next bed)

Goldilocks: Ahhh this is just right.

(Goldilocks slowly drifted off to sleep)

1 hour later…

Baby bear: I can’t wait for my porridge.

(Baby bear said excitedly. They arrived at their cottage.)

Mama Bear: Huh that’s weird why is our door wide open?

(Mama Bear said unconvinced. They stepped into their house)

Papa Bear: Grrrr! someone’s taken a bit of my porridge.

Mama Bear: Oh no! Someone’s taken a bite of my porridge.

Baby Bear: Awww! Someone’s eaten my porridge and it’s all gone!

(Baby bear started to cry)

Baby Bear: Waaahhh!

(Baby bear stops. The three bears walk into the lounge)

Papa Bear: Grrr! Someone’s been sitting in my chair, it has moved.

Mama Bear: Oh no! Someone’s been sitting in my chair, the cushion has fallen off.

Baby Bear: Awwww! Someone’s been sitting in my chair, and it’s broken.

(They went upstairs to their bedroom)

Papa Bear: Grrr! Someone’s been sleeping in my bed, because the pillow is on the floor.

Mama Bear: Oh no! Someone’s been sleeping in my bed, because the blankets are out of place.

Baby Bear: Awww! Someone’s been sleeping in my bed and there she is!

(Goldilocks jumped up with worry but she stayed and told the three bears what happened)

Mama Bear: Can I please talk to you for a minute dear.

(Papa Bear nodded)

Papa Bear: What’s the matter dear?

Mama Bear: That girl seems really familiar.

Papa Bear: Really? What’s familiar about her?

Mama Bear: Her eyes and her personality.

Papa Bear: Oh

Mama Bear: Maybe we should let her stay for a few days and we will see what happens after that.

(Papa Bear agrees with Mama Bear. They both go over and tell Goldilocks the news)

Mama Bear: You can stay here for a few days if you like?

Goldilocks: Yes please, I would love that.

(Goldilocks hugs Mama Bear)

Few days have passed…

Goldilocks: Thank you for letting me stay with you.

Mama Bear: That’s ok dear, but how did you get here?

Goldilocks: I know this might sound crazy but I was originally a bear, I got lost a few years ago trying to find my family. I was running away from this dreadful witch called Trixie. They captured me and turned me into a human.

Mama Bear: That’s why she looked familiar. You see we lost our daughter a few years ago and we thought that she passed away without us knowing, so I think it’s you.

Baby Bear: Are you my sister?

Goldilocks: I don’t know

Papa Bear: Who is this Trixie witch?

Goldilocks: She is mean and awful. She transforms animals into humans and if they don’t find their families in 7 days they will be human forever.

Baby Bear: How about we go get this witch?

(Baby Bear asking the question to the other three)

Mama Bear: Are you sure dear?

Baby Bear: Yes I’m sure

(Goldilocks and Papa bear agree with Mama and Baby bear)

Papa Bear: We will leave tomorrow at 9am sharp, so start packing.

(They all agree with Papa bear and start packing but Goldilocks doesn’t know what to pack because she didn’t bring any spare clothes)

The next morning…

Papa Bear: Everyone ready.

Mama, Baby Bear & Goldilocks: Yep!

2 hours later…

Baby Bear: Finally!

Goldilocks: We have to be very quiet though.Queen Trixie: Fancy seeing you here. I see you brought some friends along with you. Well sadly they’re mine. GUARDS! Take these bears and put them in a cage.

Papa Bear: ROAR!

(Papa bear got angry, but all of them got captured except for Goldilocks)

(Unfortunately Goldilocks was a clever and wise girl who knew exactly what to do. Before baby bear got captured she whispered something in his ear)

Goldilocks: Don’t tell anyone but I’m going to fill this bag with dirt and throw it on the ground and cause a distraction.

(Baby bear agrees with Goldilocks)

BOOM!

(Goldilocks makes a distraction and runs inside of the castle)

Goldilocks: Where are they?

Queen Trixie: Up there.

(Queen Trixie points to the three sad bears.)

Goldilocks: What does your sceptre do?

Queen Trixie: Turns animals into humans and humans into animals.

Goldilocks: Oh.

(Goldilocks had a trick up her sleeve)

(Queen Trixie turns around for a second and Goldilocks takes the scepter.)

Goldilocks: Aha got you now Trixie.

(Goldilocks turns Queen Trixie into a helpless little mouse)

Queen Trixie: Noooooo!

(Goldilocks unlocks the cage and she turns back into a bear)

Goldilocks: I’ve turned back into a bear again. (gasps) That means that you are my family.

Mama, Baby and Papa bear: Yay!

They lived happily ever after.

The End.

Have you ever made a play before?

What was your favourite part in the play?

My Wicked Word Art

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog. For prayers we had to make word art on 5 things you are gratiful for this term and 5 things you were looking foward to next term. We made it on word art.com we wrote our ten things in and you can choose your font and what image you could put your words and what way you could put your words on the image. I made mine horizontal. Here is my word art that I made.

If you haven’t made one of these try it it’s really fun at easy.

What is your favourite word on the image?

Perfect Pick a Path

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog, in the past week for my math create I had to make a pick a path about adding and subtracting fractions. To make my pick a path I used a slideshow. In a pick a path you have to answer the questions correctly. If you answer the question correctly or if you answer the question incorrectly you will get a slide that says Good Job! Or a slide that says Better luck next time. There will be a link that links to the next question.

Here is my Pick a Path that I made.

How many questions did you get right?

Have you ever made a Pick a Path before?

My Wonderful Writing

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog. This week for writing we are learning about fairytales and how to make them into plays, my fairytale that my play is based on is Goldilocks and the three bears but we had to put a plot twist into the fairytale. For my plot twist for Goldilocks and the three bears I am making a play about Goldilocks back-story, that Goldilocks was originally a bear but a witch cursed her to be a human and that the three bears are her family and they all get revenge on the witch. For my DLO which is a Digital Learning Object, I have made slideshow with 2 character profiles of the main characters in my fairytale and a narrative planner to tell you about the setting and where it talk place and the problems that they had to face as characters.

Here is my slideshow:

If you had to put a plot twist into a farytale what would it be?

My PBL Reflection Blog

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt that G.E.M means Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. Gratitude means focusing on the things you have and not focusing on the things you don’t have. Empathy means feeling the same emotions as someone else, like you know the feeling of their situation that they’re in. Mindfulness is being aware of your thoughts, when you are overwhelmed or stressed stop and lie down and take a few deep breaths in and out slowly and then your mind will reset.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

Here is an invite I made:

For the showcase evening I worked with my friends Beth, Saffy, Lily and Aria.

We decided to create GEM bracelets. We made these so that when you are wearing it you will remember to be resilent and show Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness.

Here is my final creation:

I now know more about what GEM is and how I can use it in my life to be happier.

Throughout the creating process I feel like I did a great job at making the bracelets. I could have been better at letting others have a turn at everything else.

If I was to do this again, next time I would go with another group because I don’t work with them as well as other people.

What have you done to show resilience?

Terrififc Term 1!

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog.

This term we have been learning about is writing. I am going to do 2 starts and a wish if you don’t know what that is it, it is 2 things you are liked this term and 1 thing you can improve on. So my 2 stars are that it was a nice chill term not too much going on at once and my other star is being focused on my work not on anyone elses. My wish this term is to improve on my frinedships with my friends and expand my friendships around the school with other people. In writing this term we have been writing about our pet peeves and in those seasons of writing we also have been learning about, Idioms, prefix, semicolon, superlaterives and exaggeration.

Idioms: An idoms is a figure of a speech, it’s verse that you don’t take literally, for example: I’m going to hit the hay which means I’m going to bed it doesn’t mean I’m literally going to hit a bale of hay. Semicolon: A semicolon is to allaberate on something. For example: The donkey ran over the swamp to see his friends. Superlatives: Making a point about something. For example: Out of all the girls saffy made the best artwork. Prefix: A prefix are words that are opposites like illegal and legal. Exaggerations: An exaggeration is going above and beyond like: There is a million children in our school right now!

Here is my link of pet peeves of writing this term:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/16hHhyIOXcmul8y2-mHxrXXPERfHqsADuolS6sdMV7EU/edit

Reflection: I wonder if any other schools did similar writing with all these features in them?

What did you like about Term 1 at your school?
